Student Success Stories From Parents

Alfredo Rivera's Story by Lizbeth Rivera

My son Alfredo Rivera was struggling ‘big time’ in reading and he hated to read because he could not figure it out. His teachers were thinking of retaining him in first grade because he was on the lowest level possible in reading. His school, Minor Elementary in Lilburn, GA placed him in Reading Recovery in the third quarter of the first grade. Mrs. Blakley, his Reading Recovery teacher, worked wonders with my son. By the end of the fourth quarter he was succeeding in reading. It was a miracle. He was not only reading, but he enjoyed it as well.

I am proud to say that my son is now in the fifth grade and his good reading habits have continued. His performance levels in reading in second, third, and fourth grade on the (CRCT) Criterion - Referenced Competency Test, have not just met the standards but have EXCEEDED the standards. I feel this is all due to the Reading Recovery program. It is so incredible how a teacher can change a child's life by teaching him to read!
