Be An Advocate

Faxes, Emails and Postcards

Fax Writing

The same principles apply to letters delivered via FAX. Once again, focus on keeping the letters legible, brief, and to the point. Fax communications have a sense of urgency that a postal letter may lack. However, fax communication is very common, so the urgency may be lost if your message is unclear.

Electronic Letters (E-Mail)

Electronic letters typically are briefer than either written or faxed letters. However, the same principles apply. Please consider an especially important and frequently overlooked point: PROOFREAD your e-mail messages prior to sending them. Many people do not proofread and, consequently, send an unprofessional message along with their very important substantive message.

Postcards

A postcard campaign to influence a particular situation or vote can be very effective. Post-cards can be preaddressed and distributed to parents and friends for mailing with personal messages to legislators. Postcards are an inexpensive way for many people to be involved in the advocacy process. Postcards provide an opportunity for brief messages which convey the basic request you are making to the legislator.
