Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Reading Recovery Site
Spencerport, New York
The Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Reading Recovery Site has supported
Reading Recovery implementations in 22 different school districts at
various times during 14 years in existence. Through the BOCES (Board
of Cooperative Educational Services) they have provided
continuing professional development for trained Reading Recovery
teachers in affiliated districts every year and trained new Reading
Recovery teachers in 9 of those years.
In all, 86 Reading Recovery teachers from schools throughout the
Genesee Valley region have been trained. While many trainees have
changed positions, all have taken their Reading Recovery knowledge
and theory with them into their new roles, positively impacting the
lives of young children who find it hard to learn how to read and
write.
A total of 4,808 struggling first-grade students have benefited from
having a Reading Recovery teacher help them along their own unique
path toward becoming literate.
We express our gratitude to the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Board and
leadership team, and thank the school systems currently affiliated
with our Site for their support. Those districts include
Churchville-Chili, East Irondequoit, Gates Chili, Greece, Hilton,
Honeoye Falls-Lima, LeRoy and Williamsville. Working together, we
have optimized the opportunity for those who initially struggle with
literacy acquisition to become successful classroom learners.
