Session Title

Building Reciprocity Between Reading and Writing Within the Reading Recovery Lesson

 

Description
This interactive session will explore the reciprocal nature of reading and writing. Children's Reading Recovery lesson data, video clips, and Literacy Lessons will be used for discussion. Special attention will be given to the role of language as a resource for learners, whether they are learning English as a first or second language!


Biographies
 

Betsy Kaye
Dr. Kaye has been an educator for more than 20 years, working as a special education teacher, classroom teacher, and Reading Recovery teacher before completing her Ph.D. and becoming a trainer for Texas Woman's University. She currently serves on the RRCNA Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the North American Trainer Group. Her publications include articles about second graders' reading behaviors, early intervention, and word analysis in Reading Recovery lessons.

 

Cynthia Rodríguez

Dr. Cynthia Rodríguez is a lecturer in Department of Reading at Texas Woman’s University. She has been a trainer for Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura since 2005. Her previous roles include RR/DLL teacher leader and a bilingual/ESL classroom teacher. Her research interests include early intervention for bilingual students and English language learners literacy development. She has recently completed editing the RRCNA published book, Achieving Literacy Success with English language learners: Insights, Assessment, and Instruction.
